A Crimson Legacy of Leadership

Glenn Terrell

1967-1985

Known as "the student's president," President Terrell guided the university through a tumultuous period of student protest and activism and helped advance the university to the next level of scholarly performance and student achievement.

Samuel H. Smith

1985-2000

In his 15 years as president of Washington State University, Sam Smith used his considerable talents to establish a statewide system of branch campuses and further enhance student achievement and student access.

V. Lane Rawlins

2000-2007

President V. Lane Rawlins became president in 2000, the only WSU president to have formerly served as a WSU faculty member. On his watch the University found its voice to name both its proud inheritance and its abundant promise: "World Class. Face to Face."

On June 25, 2009, Washington State University President Elson S. Floyd paid special tribute to WSU presidents emeriti Glenn Terrell, Samuel Smith, and V. Lane Rawlins. Their legacy of leadership was founded on a passionate belief in the transformative power of education.

Please help us honor this legacy by supporting the Crimson Scholarship Opportunity Fund for students in need.
